Novel "Brave New World" was the inspiration for this painting, a story that revolves around a future where individualism and personal freedom have been surrendered in favor of societal order. In the novel, people are artificially bred and conditioned from birth to fit into predetermined social classes, each with its own set of expectations and limitations. From this book, Kayla's imagination created a concept and different approach. She created a technique to resemble newspaper with washed, smeared ink that signifies the fading of the past and the world trying to shape the present as the brown hues symbolize soil covering the newspaper, signifying the suppression of history and truth. It's as though the past is intentionally buried but resurfaces as history repeats itself and evidence is found to tell the whole story. The gold represents wealth and greed this world desires which leads to dehumanization, inequality, and a sense of emptiness. This painting represents history, social class and the focus of today's world.
